What's stopping either me or you from ignoring a site such as this and utilizing our own methods to obtain those goals that were dreamed up so long ago? Nothing really. In theory we could all just study hard, draw harder, and before we know it we are giving acceptance speeches at every art festival anyone has ever heard of. In theory.
However, life doesn't exactly follow our plans or adhere to our ideals and to be fair, neither do we. Through all the various excuses and attempts at regenerating the actual care we may had towards our craft, the artist we were then and the artist we are now are just too vastly different people. One ate carpe diem for breakfast and the other drowns in hesitation and apathy. By ourselves it's far too easy to give into defeatism and the cynical, neurotic patterns that plague any self-critical artist.
This event then is born out the idea of synergy. All of us working together to get better, to help each other out, and to have fun doing it. By placing ourselves in this very public forum it just becomes that much more noticeable if we give up, if we lose our edge, if we simply ignore what some would call a gift to have and something we would miss terribly if it ever was taken away from us.
I value my friends and I think together we can accomplish great things. I think that anyone entering this project who takes it seriously will be 100% glad they did. There are no material prizes. There are no gifts. What there is, however, is the growing feeling that the other artists in this project may care about what you can do... they may want to see you do your best. Perhaps they will just want to crush you in the competition aspect of the project. Whatever the case is you'll be getting closer to truly deserving the title of artist then perhaps you thought was possible. That's the reward.
I have no idea how this is going to turn out but I will say this: as long as there is at least ONE other person doing this with me, I'm there for them as well and I will give them my best and I expect the same from them.
So yeah... let's rock this bitch. :)
